What is Cappadocia South Tour?

Perhaps, contrary to what most people know, the Cappadocia region does not only cover Nevsehir. Located in the middle of Anatolia, the Cappadocia region extends to the provinces of Nigde, Aksaray, and Kırsehir apart from Nevsehir. It is not difficult to guess that such a large region does not consist of a single city. However, there is certainly a misconception settled in this way. However, on the contrary, Cappadocia South Tour covers a part of Aksaray district, which is adjacent to Nevsehir, within the scope of the places determined on its route. Ihlara Valley constitutes an important part of it.

The valley, which hosts millions of tourists every year, has a worldwide reputation and is, therefore, one of the most popular places in the Cappadocia region. The Cappadocia South Tour is also known as the Ihlara Valley Tour. But of course, Green Tour offers our guests much more than Ihlara Valley. Cappadocia South Tour Program

The tour starts with the pick-up of our guests from the hotel in the early hours of the morning. Unlike other regional tours, the places to visit on this tour are not at a close distance. The tour route in Aksaray, the neighbor of Nevsehir province, takes approximately 1 hour. However, considering that at the end of this 1-hour journey, you will reach the Ihlara Valley. Which is a natural wonder, the time spent is of no importance.

There is no better place to start the day than Ihlara Valley, the first route of our tour. A 4-5 kilometer hike awaits you in the valley, where you will encounter lush vegetation when you go in the season. In addition, although a long walking route awaits you, at the end of it you will encounter the serenity of nature rather than fatigue.

Then we go to Belisırma Village, which is the second stop of our tour. Belisırma Village, a Greek village, is still in use. This village, which is home to many churches, is explored in detail with our guide.

Ihlara Valley

You must have heard of Ihlara Valley, one of the most popular areas of Nevsehir. Cappadocia South Tour is also known by the name of Ihlara Valley, whose name has transcended cities and even countries. So much so that this valley is one of the most well-known and popular valleys of the Cappadocia region. Another reason why this tour is also known as Ihlara Valley Tour is that a very important part of the Green Tour is reserved for this valley. The pleasure you will get from this valley, which is known as a world-famous natural wonder. Also changes according to the seasons you visit. The valley, which welcomes its guests with lush greenery in spring and summer, sheds its leaves in autumn and winter and returns to earthy colors. However, it maintains its high energy and immense beauty in all circumstances.

The definition of the Cappadocia region is used to express a very large region spread over different areas than it is in Nevsehir province. Cappadocia South Tour, on the other hand, gives us the chance to explore just such an area. Ihlara Valley, which is located in the city of Aksaray and leaves its guests open with its magnificent beauty, is an example of this situation.

Belisırma Village

After the valley walk that lasts for kilometers, our road arrives at Belisırma Village, which is the starting point of Ihlara Valley. At this point, if you come across the season, you will be able to see the trees that have given fruit. Moreover, you will find peace with the sound of the river flowing in a lush atmosphere. In short, Belisırma Village promises plenty of peace if you are a spring or summer visitor.

As you can imagine, it is thought that the history of this Greek village. It's located within the borders of Aksaray, goes back even before the 10th century. There are churches from the 10th and 13th centuries in the valley. In addition, this village is known as one of the important points that allowed the spread of Christianity in Anatolia. The magnificent wall paintings and frescoes in the churches also appear as an emphasis on Christianity.

Lunch South Tour

After a comprehensive village tour and kilometers of walking, the third stop of the tour is lunch. Undoubtedly, at this point, after the soul saturation of our guests who are quite tired, it is time to satisfy their hunger. At this stop, there is a 1-hour break where our guests can have their meals and relieve their physical fatigue at the same time. Afterward, we go to Selime Monastery, which is the fourth stop of the Cappadocia Green Tour route.

Selime Monastery

This building, which is known as both a monastery and a cathedral, is still standing tall despite its centuries-old history. Due to its size, mysterious structure, and nature, it creates a magnificent visual feast for its guests. It is so large that it contains a school, church, and living quarters. Selime Monastery, named after the town it is in, is located at the endpoint of Ihlara Valley. This monastery at the exit of Ihlara Valley welcomes its guests like an eagle's nest in the cliffs.

The history of the monastery, which is the largest religious settlement in the Cappadocia region, dates back to the 13th century. Like every stone building made by the clergy of the period and belonging to the ancient period, this monastery was built by carving into stones. In addition, the caravan road used to pass near this 2-story building. In this sense, it is an important building that hosted many nuns in ancient times and hosted many guests. The fairy chimneys nearby increase the spiritual effect of this area.

Just like in Belisırma Village and Ihlara Valley, there is a church in Selime Monastery. The Cappadocia region has been a very important region for living and spreading Christianity comfortably in ancient times. For this reason, it can be said that there are many churches in the region, but there is another reason for this. In ancient times, as now, there was a taxation system. Also, building a church in his house was important because it was a very good way to spread Christianity and live. As a result, many churches that were built to be tax-exempt in the past also add value to the present state of the region. Thus, the transition to the Underground City, which is the fifth stop for the Cappadocia Green Tour, which continues with the detailed explanations of our guide, is made.

Underground city

At the last stop of our tour, an Underground City tour is planned. After Selime Monastery, which has a mysterious and mystical atmosphere, we go to the Underground City, another structure with a high mysterious atmosphere. Due to its history and location, the Cappadocia region contains many different types of structures. Underground cities are just one of them. There are approximately 150-200 underground cities spread throughout the region. Although these are large and small, the fame of a few of them has exceeded cities and even countries.

The reason for this is not only that despite the primitive technology of the past. The stones could also be carved several floors below the ground. In addition, underground cities have many functional uses. These areas, which were built to be used not in daily life but essential situations, are thought to be able to be overcome even if the necessary conditions last for days.

Underground City and Fairy Chimneys

The people living in the fairy chimneys or the houses they carved into the stones on the ground used the underground cities in times of danger. The people living in the Cappadocia region, located in the middle of the Anatolian geography, have preserved their existence in this way for centuries. The region on the caravan routes remained open to looting or invasion. For this reason, they have developed a method to protect themselves from invaders or looters.

As soon as a threat was seen from the high areas used for surveillance, all the people were forced to go down to the underground cities. If the subject of everyone's descent is not accepted, it is tied to such strict rules as death. Because the aim here was to convince the invading armies that no one lived in that region. For this reason, even the people had to take their animals to underground cities, and areas were planned for them in the cities. Within the scope of the Cappadocia Green Tour. You will be able to get many more details like this from our guides. Our tour comes to an end with this Underground City tour, where you can easily discover the traces of the past. From this point, we return to the hotel with our vehicles, and the Cappadocia South Tour ends
